WOW, Hotlanta delivered! Did we have a fantastic UC time at the Blair Conference? A resounding YES is the answer. The Hotel W was majestic and first class. We held our Blair Board meeting Thursday (pic 001) and you can see our esteemed president is so turned out he could be on the cover of Esquire! We added a new member to the board, UCHC Dr. Frederick Schurger of Springfield, Ill.(pic 012 with Dr. Rob Ohlssen who is on the left) We also decided to hold the 2010 Blair Conference at Life Chiropractic College West in Northern California in conjunction with other UC techniques. Expect the energy to be awesome as I anticipate a huge cloud forming over the college in the form of a brain stem!!!
Dr.Drew Hall (photo 002) was the MC for the program. Last year we dedicated the conference to two late and great Blair docs,….Drs. George Banitch and Weldon Muncy. This year Drew dedicated the program to me…despite the fact that I am neither great nor late!!!
Concurrent with the seminar program, we performed an Inter and Intra Examiner Reliability X-ray Study in which 26 doctors & students read 100 Blair protractoview films TWICE to see how the participants agreed on the atlas misalignments detected on x-ray and then to see if they agreed with their own findings. I really appreciate Dr. Todd Hubbard and Palmer student Brett Vowles (and Dr. Susan Hooper, DC, PhD) for their arduous efforts to construct and monitor the study. Of course I messed with the participant’s heads by having the first set of films show no misalignment!!!
While on the subject of Brett, he is about to graduate and would eventually like to set up a Blair practice in his home town of San Diego. If any of you docs in Arizona or California are interested in a top notch Blair doc as an associate, contact Brett at Bvowles1@gmail.com
Dr. Dustin Whitney of Calgary, Canada was the first speaker and he wowed the audience with his cellular look at chiropractic that was so way beyond backaches that most DC’s wouldn’t even know such amazing recoveries can be had! He was dynamic, effervescent, and rocked the classroom. He didn’t even have a Canadian accent I could make fun of!!!
Dr. Michael Lenarz (pic 004) spoke next and did a fantastic job of stressing the importance that if you are not a successful businessperson, you will not be available to render the life changing service of UC. In pic 014 you have to decide which is the real Dr. Lenarz!!!
Dr. Hubbard took the main conference room and performed a Primary with the assistance of Dr. Perry Rush (pic 003) I was relegated to a room the size of an elevator for the Advanced. Not really, our room had windows with great views..I know that because that’s the direction the students were looking while I taught!!!
Dr. John Hilpisch (009)gave a resounding talk telling the docs to “concentrate on atlas” and be true to Dr. Blair’s teachings. Later Danny Huffaker talked about the advantages of precise x-rays in the Blair technique and the American X-ray system. We also had Dr. Ray Drury of UCHC deliver a brief talk on “Upper Cervical in Italy” We thank Ray for allowing us to demonstrate on his Lloyd side posture table purchased from Dr. John Sidney William (pic 015 standing next to Dr. Brain Mehl) that will be shipped to Sicily next week. The table will be used by my associate Dr. Jake Hollowell and he may be surprised when he looks underneath and sees all the signatures and well wishes written on the bottom the table. Hope he doesn’t recognize my handwriting of the limerick “There once was a lady from Nantucket…..!!!
The last speaker, Dr. Kirk Eriksen, talked for two hours on many subjects. He discussed some very encouraging results of the Upper Cervical Safety and Efficacy study; talked about a multitude of conditions that have resolved with precise UC care; and added a few videos comparing Blair to Grostic…
(1) The first video showed a patient dressed as a Viking shouting out that he ‘liked’ his care from skinny necked Dr. Hilpisch but Grostic care made him stronger! SCORE GROSTIC 1, BLAIR 0!
(2) The second video was of a bad-dancing surfer dude who happened to come across Dr. Drew Hall’s card and sought out care for his slipped SI joint (no doubt thrown out from the awkward dancing moves!) but complained of the hard neck adjustment, preferring the light Grostic correction which leveled the hips and cleared the pain quickly. SCORE GROSTIC 2, BLAIR 0!
(3) The third video was of a very effeminate man in a pink shirt carrying around my photo kissing it and stating how much he loved me and my care. The patient did mention that he really liked the Grostic pose/setup of the doctor but still preferred Blair. FINAL SCORE, GROSTIC 2, BLAIR 1.
(It should be noted that all three patients were actually Dr. Eriksen, lending credence to my diagnosis that this man has a ‘serious multiple personality disorder’ and society would probably be safer with him in solitary confinement!!!) Personally I think Dr. Eriksen is just jealous of the ‘speed’ of a Blair adjustment. Check out Life University intern Andrea Knight (pic forest.andrea) and you will see why we have “the fastest pisiform in the West!!!”
As much as we wanted Dr. Eriksen to stick around after his talk (the flames at the stake were just the right height!) he had to return to a Grostic seminar on the other side of town. So I gathered about 70 doctors and students in my classroom so they could compete for 5 excellent UC posters and 4 packets of brochures kindly donated by Dr. Daniel Clark. The idea was to have a green (after the green books) tarp suspended from the ceiling and have white balloons spelling out BJ…to commemorate our leader. It was Dr. Dennis Campbell’s (pic 016) job to arrange all of this, but since he attached one of the balloons to the rear of my suit prior to my entering the large classroom packed with an audience, he was fired abruptly. I told his wife we should forget about the balloons and just put an apple on Campbell’s head and have the students aim for that. Her comment was, “I’ve got an apple in my room!” The students fired the darts away at the balloons (pic 021,020) and the final nine winners were recognized at the awards banquet. (pic 029)
The Award’s Banquet consisted of an excellent dinner (mostly vegetarian) which ticked off those carnivorous Montana guys Drs. Hubbard and Matz (pic 013) Two doctors were awarded BLAIR PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATION and they were Drs. Jake Hollowell and Daniel Judge (pic 023). BLAIR PRIMARY INSTRUCTOR certification was awarded to Dr. Johnny Truong. The Palmer (Iowa) students presented me with a plaque of appreciation for many years of service to the Palmer Blair Club (pic 027) :
And finally, the BLAIR CHIROPRACTOR OF THE YEAR was the well deserved and totally surprised DR TODD HUBBARD!!!(pic 025)
It was a Blair Blast!!!
Take care-
Take care-
Tom
P.S. I apologize for leaving out any photos or for not identifying some of the docs and students in the pics….like everything else, I’ll blame it on Dr. Campbell! Thanks so much for attending and for those who didn’t , look how much fun you missed!!!! LASTLY, ONE DOC WROTE ME AND ASKED TO BE TAKEN OFF MY MAILING LIST. IF YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY LET ME KNOW…WE UC DOCS AS A LITTLE DIFFERENT!!!
